The Problem: A Cramped, Segmented Layout

A home should adapt to the people living in it. Our client, Lesley, was dealing with a segmented floor plan. The kitchen and laundry were separated by a dividing wall, creating tight bottlenecks and unnecessary barriers that made daily living harder than it needed to be. Additionally, the home lacked proper exterior accessibility.

The Scope: Tearing Down the Barriers

The goal was simple: eliminate the bottlenecks. We needed to combine the kitchen and laundry into one massive, cohesive area, and make the home easily accessible from the outside in. We started by gutting the space and removing the structural wall dividing the rooms.

The Features: Designing for Flow and Function

We focus on practical, high-impact changes that genuinely improve daily living. For this project, the upgrades included:

Exterior Upgrades: The Raised Garden Bed

Accessibility doesn’t stop at the back door. To complement the new accessible entry, we built a sturdy, custom timber raised garden bed. This allows Lesley to enjoy gardening without the physical strain of bending to ground level.

The Challenge: Managing Vendor Roadblocks

In construction, supplier delays happen. The difference between a good builder and a great one is how those issues are handled.

During this build, we ran into significant friction with the kitchen manufacturer. Instead of passing the headache and stress on to the client, our team took full ownership. We managed the manufacturer directly, held them accountable to our quality standards, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to resolve the issues. The result? The kitchen was delivered and installed in

Lesley’s exact specifications without her having to manage the chaos.

The Final Outcome: Earning the Next Phase

The ultimate proof of a successful build isn’t just a positive review; it’s repeat business.

Lesley was thrilled with her new barrier-free kitchen, the modernised laundry area, and the ease of her new accessible ramp. She was so satisfied with Providence Construction’s communication and craftsmanship that before we even packed up our tools, she hired us for her next major project: closing in the front conservatory of her home.
